Finance Forum of India was established in 2000 at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai, under the initiative of Dr. A. K. Sengupta, then Director of SPJIMR. It was created to give India's finance education a common measure: a standard that tells learners, institutions and employers what financial capability looks like.
Today FFOI is a Section 8 organisation registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. It operates independently of the Government of India, and its standards, assessments and certification decisions rest with FFOI alone.

Financial Adaptive Skills (FAS) are the finance skills to understand financial markets, asset classes and products, and to adapt as industry requirements change.
FFOI measures it through FAAT, the Financial Adaptive Skills Acumen & Assessment Test, and certifies it level by level against one consistent standard.
FFOI holds the standard at the centre. Dedicated entities carry training, placement and financial literacy. Members and corporates connect to FFOI through certification and recruitment, and CareerProf aggregates the ecosystem to scale.
